Government Shutdown Information
Updated: October 3rd @ 1:00pm
What Happened
On October 1, 2025 at 12:01 a.m. ET, the federal government officially shut down after Congress failed to pass a budget or continuing resolution.
This means:
- Federal civilian employees may be furloughed (not working or paid) or required to continue working without pay until funding is restored.
- Some government contractors may also be impacted if their work is tied to federal funding.
- Active-duty military personnel will continue to serve, but their pay could be delayed depending on how long the shutdown lasts.
Federal employees are entitled to back pay under the Government Employee Fair Treatment Act of 2019; however, the timing of when those funds will be received is uncertain.
